Frequently Asked Questions

New Members

New members must register for 1) a New Member Clinic (NMC) and 2) the season they wish to participate in. You can register for both on our website, divadallas.org, prior to the start of each season.

DIVA is a co-ed league.

18+. Most of our members are in their 20’s or older.

During a New Member Clinic (NMC), you will participate in drills such as setting, serving, hitting, and passing. You will also scrimmage with other clinic attendees. A team of evaluators will evaluate your skills, and you will be placed into one of DIVA’s seven divisions. NMCs are free to attend, but you must register online.

All registered players receive 11+ weeks of game play, an end-of-season tournament, optional practices, ad hoc skills development sessions, and a season t-shirt.

New members receive a detailed information email prior to the start of their first season. Additionally, Division Representatives and captains provide support and answer questions. The Division Representatives are voted upon by the members of his or her division. Lastly, keep an eye on our social media for announcements and events.

Rules

DIVA players self-referee and keep score at all regular season games. Your team will be assigned one game to referee each game night.

During the spring and fall seasons, DIVA offers refereeing and scorekeeping clinics to become certified.

The losing team of the final game of the night stays behind to clean up their court.

If your team will have at least three players but less than six players, you can use a sub. If you use a non-roster sub (from the sub pool), you must use that player all night. You can use up to two subs per night.

You may sub for one team per game night. You may not sub if your team is playing OR officiating at the same time, even if you are not personally officiating. You may only sub for your division or one division higher.

If your team forfeits a game due to insufficient players, the court will still be available for play for those of you who can attend. However, a forfeited game will not count towards your season record.

Other

All games are played on a standard men’s height net.

Each spring and fall season, players can sign-up to be reevaluated. Reevaluation costs $15.

Members of DIVA’s Executive Board (President, all Vice Presidents, Treasurer, and Secretary) are elected and serve two-year terms. The seven Division Representatives are also voted on during elections and serve one-year terms. Every spring, members can run for open positions and vote in the election. The remaining members of the Board of Directors are board-appointed (e.g., Director of Evaluations). The current Board of Directors can be found in our website along with their respective contact information.
